Asthma Bronchitis Symptoms

Asthma/Bronchial Asthma

Allergic bronchitis leads to Asthma. Asthma is a chronic disease that affects airways of your lungs. There are two main problems in asthma- swelling and increased mucous [inflammation] in airways and squeezing of the muscles around the airways [bronchospasm]. In Ayurveda, Bronchial Asthma is known as Tamaka Shwasa.According to Ayurveda, an increase in Kapha dosha prevents air movement that causes spasms in the bronchial area causing the condition.

Causes Of Tamaka Shwasa As Per Ayurveda

  • Intake of dry, cold, heavy, incompatible food and irregular intake of food.
  • Excessive intake of black gram, beans, sesame, meat of aquatic animals.
  • Intake of cold water and exposure to cold climate.
  • Exposure to dust, smoke and wind.
  • Excessive exercise, over indulge in the sexual activity.
  • Trauma to throat, chest and vital organs.
  • Suppression of natural urges.

Triggering Factors

  • Inhalation of Allergens:House dust, pollen, mold,animal dander.
  • Environment: cold and dry climate, cooking gas fumes, passive cigarette smoking, paints, sprays.
  • Infections: URT infections, viral infections.
  • Food:Colouring agents of food, food preservatives, ice creams.
  • Exercise: Vigorous exercise particularly on cold and dry day.
  • Psychological factor: stress.
  • Occupation: wood and cotton dust, chemicals.

Signs And Symptoms

  • Cough- often dry and can have harsh burst.
  • Wheezing-a whistling sound mainly when you breathe out through narrowed airways.
  • Chest tightness.
  • Shortness of breath thats gets worse with activity or exercise.

Home Remedies

  • The best remedy is to put desi cow’s ghee (clarified butter) in both the nostrils every morning. It makes a barrier in the nose which prevents allergy particles to go in the lungs and cause asthma.
  • Best pranayama for asthma is Bhastrika pranayama. Start with 5-10 mins and then increases 15-30 mins daily. It is Rambaan for asthma patients. You have to do this pranayama for life long
  • Before going to bed, Apply Til Tel (Sesame seeds oil) on the chest and back then do steaming. Then cover your body properly and sleep.
  • Avoid oranges, lemons, fried items, chilled or cold water or food,cold,sour products;maida products; baking products; rice; banana..
  • Stay away from Air conditioners, Fans etc.
  • Do cleaning of nose by sniffing warm water mixed with rock salt [saindhav namak] by one nostril and taking out from other nostril.
